Homemade Puffed Kamut Cereal

Homemade “Sugar Smacks” Cereal

There’s something deeply nostalgic about cereal for me. When my sister and I were kids, it wasn’t an everyday breakfast—it was a treat. Something special. On vacation, we’d get those little Kellogg’s multipacks, and Honey Smacks was always one of our favorites. That sweet, crunchy bowl felt like pure childhood joy.

Fast forward to today, and I still love that flavor and memory, but I don’t love what’s actually in most boxed cereals. The ingredient lists are long, processed, and far from what I want feeding my family.

A friend shared this recipe that she makes for her kids all the time, and I am SO glad I tried it myself because it’s a new favorite in our house! I set out to recreate that same nostalgic Honey Smacks-style cereal in a way that feels good—simple, clean, and made with real ingredients like organic puffed kamut and a light honey glaze. It’s everything I remember loving, but without the preservatives and additives I’d rather skip.

Now I get to bring that same “vacation cereal” excitement into my own home, but in a way that fits the life I’m building—slower, more intentional, and rooted in real food. And there’s something really special about watching my child enjoy it, knowing I’ve turned a childhood memory into something nourishing we can share together.

The cereal I used was from Azure Standard Nature’s Path Organic Kamut Cereal, but you may be able to find it at local grocery stores in your area like Sprouts or Trader Joe’s.
